The PD-4 series was developed by MNIITEP in the 1990s. It gained its popularity due to: the presence of 5-room apartments, a spacious kitchen, and the presence of a second bathroom. Even in the houses of this series, it is possible to equip two-level apartments (due to the attic) and studio apartments. Internal partitions are not load-bearing, which gives designers room for creativity. In the basement it is possible to arrange parking for cars. Balconies of a large area and original shape were designed, which is a distinguishing feature from other series of houses.

PD-4 is one of the series of prefabricated houses made of isolated block sections. Years of construction from 1995 to the present. Houses of this series are no longer being built in Moscow, but they continue to be actively built in the Moscow region. A distinctive feature are balconies - in the form of trapezoids or irregular polygons.


DSK-4, established in 1986, manufactures and constructs residential buildings of the new Pd4 series with a height of 12, 14 and 16 floors.

Projects and project documentation industrial products required for the construction of residential buildings produced by DSK-4 are developed by design workshops No. 1 and No. 5 of MNIITEP with the involvement of specialized engineering departments of the institute. Residential buildings of the new Pd4 series are characterized by:

  • - mastering the production of new architectural solutions facades;
  • - reducing the cost of construction of 1 sq. m total area;
  • - transition to the construction of the Pd4 series with improved apartment solutions due to the use of a single step of 3.6 m, the use of a block section with an increased number of room apartments, new facades, etc.;
  • - mastering the production of a modified Pd4M series, characterized by the introduction of a step of 4.2 m and bay windows on the facades of buildings.

On the basis of the order of the Government of Moscow No. 1316 dated July 25, 1996 “On the readiness of DSK-4 for the production of reinforced concrete products of the Pd4 series of houses”, by order of the Moscow Architecture Committee and Mosstroy, MNIITEP developed in 1995 working designs of 4-9-storey residential block sections of the series Pd4M, and in 1998 prepared proposals for the development of 12, 14, 16, 1 7-storey residential block sections of the Pd4M series, which differ in the following features: and 3.0 m, respectively); - the use of bay windows; - improvement of apartment layouts, improvement of the proportions of living rooms and kitchens; - application of new facade solutions, new types of balconies and loggias; - use of panels of external walls without contour ribs; - provision of a diverse set of types of apartments depending on the required demographics of the settlement.

PD-4 is a typical series of panel houses, developed in the mid-90s. At the time of development, the PD-4 series of houses was fundamentally new, and not a deep modification, like most other projects. The concept of the PD-4 project at the time of its development was considered non-standard.
