You will not be allowed to download software just like that, you will definitely need to create an account. As for how to register on Thinkorswim, it's free, but you have to choose from 2 versions of the terminal:

• Paper Money is a version that allows you to work on a demo account, in which information is delivered with a delay of 20 minutes. The official website Thinkorswim does not allow traders from the CIS to work normally with the Live Trading version; they have to look for workarounds. Another major drawback is that there is no stock filter in this version. The rest of the platform functionality does not differ from the Live Trading version;
• Live Trading - data is updated without delay. In addition, the stock filter becomes available. But the Thinkorswim demo account is not available in this version.

It is inconvenient to work due to the fact that after 60 days you have to re-register again. To remove this shortcoming in the past, the Thinkorswim Infinity instant registration service worked - a trader did not need to do anything at all. 1-2 days before the expiration of the 60-day period, a notification will simply come to the mail that the service has completed the registration on the site again.

This instant registration service for Thinkorswim does not work at this time.

First start

An automatic update will occur immediately after launch. The program looks for an update every time it starts and sometimes this leads to problems - there are situations when at this stage nothing happens and it does not work to start TOS (Thinkorswim). Please note - the update process is slow, it can take 10-15 minutes, so just wait. If it doesn't help, you can try downloading Thinkorswim from another source and try to install it, sometimes it helps.

If everything went well, you will see the following window, in which you need to choose which version of the terminal you will work with (PaperMoney or LiveTrading). Enter the username and password that were used when registering at Thinkorswim.

The CNBS window appears, you can immediately close it.

You can make sure that we are working with the version of PaperMoney due to the delay in displaying the data.

We see that we are in the Simulated Trading mode, and all data is received 20 minutes late. Thinkorswim is free, so you can live with this inconvenience. It is much worse that in 2017, after registering on thinkorswim com, the version of Live Trading will not be able to test everything equal.

On the left side of the terminal, windows with additional information will be displayed:

The "+" sign is responsible for adding new widgets to the panel, and the gear sign allows you to delete already added widgets. You can simply hide this panel at any time. Basically, this is not the most important information in the Thinkorswim terminal.

These windows can be controlled by selecting the Detach Gadget item in the drop-down menu in the upper right corner. In this case, the window will be undocked and can be expanded to full screen.

Watch list is a very convenient tool and the terminal itself has several of its own. But a trader can add his own Watch list by importing it from a text file or from another resource.

To do this, in the Thinkorswim settings (in the Watch list), select the "Create" item and then you can go in 2 ways:

The method of creation is also chosen - the selected shares can be added to the existing ones or replace them. A trader can create several Watch lists and then simply switch between them by clicking on the vertical arrows.

Setting up the schedule

To work with ThinkorSwim charts, go to the Charts section, in the Symbol field, enter the name of the asset you plan to work with. By default, charts in this terminal look like this.

To customize the look:

Red vertical lines are displayed on the chart, if they interfere, you can remove them by disabling the Show Expiration Friday item in the Time Axis section.

Here, in the Expansion Area field, set a number in the range of 5-10, this will set the graph offset from the right border of the screen. It is not very convenient when the candle literally sticks to it.

In the Price Axis section you can:

• set an arbitrary top / bottom indent, the Expansion Area parameter;
• use manual scaling, it's better not to do this, automatic scaling works pretty well anyway;
• set your own price change interval, for this, activate the Custom Interval field, the number 1 means that the price change step is $ 1;
• choose a logarithmic or a percentage candle.

In settings 3, the last tabs correspond to currency pairs, futures and options in Thinkorswim. Don't touch them at all.

Temporary settings

If you have worked with other trading terminals, for example, you may get a little confusion with the concepts of timeframe and timeframe. They are not synonymous here.

Charts in the Thinkorswim platform are displayed for a specific time period. For example, a 5-minute chart over a 5-day time frame or daily candles over the last year. Both parameters can be configured.

There are several ways to change the period for which the information is viewed and the interval (timeframe):

Previously, TD Ameritrade calmly allowed downloading this version of the platform after registration. But then the shop was closed. Last but not least, why do we need Proxy Switcher? Answer: in case of a ban. If your account has been closed, then try to register again as follows: erase all the cookies of your browser - using the Proxy Switcher (the program itself and how to use it can be easily found on the Internet), create a new US IP address and check its functionality - register as we do did, again.

I heard that changing the IP does not work, because Thinkorswim does not remember your computer, but verifies the authenticity of the entered data. Despite this, before I opened an account with TD Ameritrade, I often had to deal with ban problems, and the latter method worked quite well.
